We Love Christmas video Evaluation
In this music video project my main responsibilities were Camera Person, editing and acting in the video. Everyone in the group was in the music video. Abby played a day dreaming girl Hannah played a girl in abbeys day dream and I played Santa in abbys day dream. As a camera man I helped by making sure the shots were right and helping to improve them by telling the others how we could change it I also helped with some of the ideas for the story and narrative side of the video. The narrative was about a Girl (Abby) daydreaming about a perfect Christmas. I also was responsible for arranging the recording of the singing in the music track which was sung by abby and Hannah.
I think my contribution was very effective in this project, because many of my ideas went into the video and I did a large amount of the filming although I could have made a few more appearances in the video. Another performance error, which everyone in the group made, was that sometimes the lip- syncing was slightly out of time with the lyrics. This was probably because we did not play the music, as we were filming I feel I could have improved this by pointing this out when I was filming and changing it. Apart from those few errors, I thought overall the video went well with some good shots putting across a good Christmas feeling in the video.
From creating this project, I have learnt a lot such as how to use the camera techniques at a better standard, and using the editing program, ‘Final Cut Pro’ easer and I learnt that the lighting and colour of the shots in a video production helps reflected a genre. As we used all natural lighting, some of our shots were quite dull. Using the colour Corrector 3-Way on Final Cut Pro really helped solve this problem. This technique was used in most shots to create a brighter and cheerier music video. This matched our genre very well. Before doing this project, I didn’t really know how to use different camera techniques but I fell I have improved and learnt more about camera work and editing since working on this project.
I think the overall the video went well but some the camera work could have been much better, as we didn’t use many shot sizes and camera movement. If we were able to do this project again, I would use more shots to flow along with the quick music. For example in the bridge, there are only some shots of Christmas bags and cards which didn’t match the fast pace music in the bridge. If I had a chance to do it again I would put some faster moving images in the bridge and I would get our lip-syncing in time with the lyrics more accurately.
I think over all editing was very effective in the music video. The fading in and out transitions highlighted the narrative of the Girl (Abby) going in and out of the daydream very successfully. The black and white filters were very effective in the first and last shot, as they showed that those shots were in reality and colour in the shots for the daydream, to make it seem more bright, happier and perfect the props were also very useful in our video, to present a Christmas feel and worked well as they related to Christmas and helped tell the story, in a happy and fun way.
